The second exhibition is “Norma I. Quintana: Paradise of Memory / Paraíso de la Memoria,” a portrait series by photographer Norma I. Quintana that examines memory, identity and cultural heritage.

Inspired by portraits made by itinerant photographers in Puerto Rico, Quintana recreates the hand-painted backdrop from her family’s own photographs to honor members of her present-day community.

“Each image becomes an act of recognition,” guest curator Ann Trinca said in a statement, describing the portraits as reminders to preserve the memory of loved ones. More information can be found at svma.org.
