THE NORA ECCLES HARRISON MUSEUM OF ART will recognize local firefighting organizations at it’s Community Art Day on Oct. 14.
The event will be from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Participants will make clay hands inspired by the photographer Norma I. Quintana in the exhibition Facing Fire: Art, Wildfire and the End of Nature in the New West exhibition, up through Dec. 16.
After her home burned down in the Atlas Peak fire, Quintana wore black gloves to sift through the ash and debris. She discovered personal meaning and emotional memories in each object she salvaged from the fire.
Along with our free art-making activity, NEHMA will highlight the Logan City Fire Department and the Uintah Wasatch-Cache National Forest Firefighter (UW-CNFF) for their hard work to protect our communities and wildland resources.
The Logan City Fire Department provides fire rescue for medical and hazardous events with professionalism and commitment to the cities of Logan, North Logan, Providence and River Heights, along with unincorporated areas of Cache County, including Logan Canyon. All Logan City Firefighters are trained AEMTs or paramedics. They also respond to wildland fire and airport rescue fire fighting.
UW-CNFF quickly responds to wildfires in our national forests and surrounding communities identified as high or very high risk. The Wildland Fire Management Strategy focuses on three goals: restoring and maintaining the landscape, creating fire-adapted communities that better withstand wildfire, and improving wildfire response. Wildlife firefighters include engine crews, pilots, smokejumpers, hotshots and hand-crews. Additionally, these firefighting specialists conduct prescribed fires and help accomplish other natural resource management missions.
Admission is free and open to the public. The museum offers free visitor parking in the lot west of the Russell/Wanlass Performance Hall. For public transportation, ride the Cache Valley Transit routes 1, 4, or the Green or Blue Loop and get off at the Fine Arts stop.
